Sietsma named NJAC Rookie Pitcher of the Week

Glen Rock's Alex Sietsma, a freshman right-hander for The College of New Jedrsey, earn NJAC Rookie Pitcher of the Week honors after pitching in two games during TCNJ’s season-opening Spring Trip to Florida. He opened her collegiate career by garnering a no decision after surrendering just three hits and two earned runs while striking out eight in five innings of work during the Lions’ 3-2 defeat to Rochester. One day later, she earned the first win of her career by tossing 4.1 innings without allowing a hit while striking out nine in a 10-0 shutout of Daniel Webster. Sietsma currently ranks second in the NJAC in strikeouts (17).

Dessimone, Treacy end scholastic soccer careers at Prudential Center

Glen Rock was represented by Renee Dessimome and Maria Treacey who were among the 106 of northern New Jersey's top seniors playing in the Inaugural NJ Ironmen Girls Soccer All-Star Game was a total success on Sunday (March 2) at the Prudential Center in Newark. College scouts from NCAA Division I, II and III schools attended to get a close look at prospective players while grandparents and friends around the nation were able to watch the event via webcast. The event has been archived and can be accessed at njsoccer.org that selected the All-Stars from the Class of 2008 in Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Hunterdon, Middlesex, Morris, Passaic, Somerset, Sussex and Warren counties.
Dessimone, a 5-5 midfield for Glen Rock, she is a four-time monogram winner who netted 23 goals and dished off 18 assists during her career. A 1st Team B-PSL All-Star, she excels in academics, posting a GPA of 3.7 and is a member of the National Honor Society. She has committed to continue her academic/athletic career on the campus of Muhleberg in Bethlehem, PA, a member of the NCAA Division III Centennial Conference.
Treacy, a 5-8 forward for Glen Rock, finished her three-year varsity career scoring 42 goals and dishing off 24 assists. As a senior, she served as captain and led the Panthers in scoring and goals while earning 1st Team B-PSL and 2nd Team Bergen County All-Star accolades. An Edward J. Blaustein Scholar and member of the National Honor Society who maintains a GPA of 4.15, Treacy will matriculate at Hamilton, a member of the NCAA Division III NESCAC in the fall.

Panthers' Hoerner Cup final to be web cast

Glen Rock surged to a 3-0 lead and went on to defeat Tenafly 5-3 in the semifinals of the Earl Hoerner Cup on Tuesday evening. The Panthers advance to the championship game against Paramus Catholic that will be played Saturday afternoon at the Codey Arena in West Orange, starting at 4:00PM. A web cast of the contest will be available and archived on njicehockey.com beginning on Sunday evening.
It was the third triumph of the Tigers this season by the Panthers who had captured 5-1 and 3-1 win in NJIHL Northern Conference - Red Division encounters. Leading 1-0 after 15 minutes, the Panthers built their advantage to 3-0 in the middle period. The Tigers got on the board with back-to-back goals before the second intermission and Glen Rock iced the verdict with two goals in the final period to up their record to 14-9-1.
Balanced scoring was the key to success for coach Sergio Fernandez and his squad as five players netted goals. Jack Biamonte, Jimmy Kinney, Ben Probert, Chris Staines and Mike Vest netted the goals with Rob Castellano distributing a pair of assists. Credited with solo assists were Peter Cuviello, Andrew Carlo and Kinney while Matt Luczyk stopped 17 of the Tigers' 20 shots on goals.
Paramus Catholic and Glen Rock are 1-2 in the Red Division standings, having split their two regular-season matchups. The Panthers drew first blood, winning 5-3 and the Paladins claimed the "W" in the second encounter by a 3-1 score.

Glen Rock rallies in 3rd quarter

Glen Rock went on a 12-4 run in the third quarter to defeat Garfield 47-44 in a B-PSL girls' basketball game on January 5 in Garfield. Balanced scoring was the key as nine of the 12 Lady Panthers etched their names in the scoring column led by Klil Babin who tickled the twine for a team-high 10 points.
Glen Rock skated to a 2-1 victory over St. Joseph Regional/Montvale in a Northern Conference - Red Division encounter on January 5. Jared Pollet scored in the opening period with Jimmy Kinney contributing the game-winning tally in the middle period. Assists were credited to Ben Probert and Chris Staines while goalie Matt Luczyk made 17 saves.
Paramus fell 10-5 to the Panthers on January 4 as Kinney produced a hat trick performance. Probert contributed a pair of assists and two goals while Rob Castellano, Pat Donahue, Pollet, Staines and Mike Vest added solo goals to the scoring parade. Alex Baldini distributed three assists with Castello dishing off two, Credited with solo assists were Jack Bianmonte, Peter Coviello, Andrew DeCarlo and Pollet while Luczyk stopped 21 shots on goal.
Alex Cimiluca pinned his opponent 35 seconds into the 152-pound bout to highlight the combined wrestling team of Saddle Brook/Glen Rock's 50-30 triumph over Garfield in a B-PSL wrestling match. At 160-pounds, Dan Curtin needed only 38 ticks to flatten Krys Kucab. Matt Jocobson (112) also produced a pin while Jared Schlett registered a technical fall in the 171-pound weight class.
