Glen Rock advanced to the NJSIAA North Jersey, Section 1, Group I championship game in the post-season girls’ soccer tournament on Monday. Seeded No. 2, the Panthers edged third-seeded New Milford and will clash with No. 5 Westwood on Thursday in a game set to start at 2:00 PM at a site to be announced. The win raised the Panthers overall record to 17-1-1.
Kristin Trentham scored the game-winning tally that snapped a scoreless stalemate six minutes into the second half. It was the fifth goal of the campaign for the sophomore forward. Goalkeeper Sarah Volkommer continued her outstanding play between the pipes as she was credited with nine saves in recording her 16th shutout of the season. She has surrendered only two goals over 19 games.
Glen Rock had opened its quest for the sectional title by blanking seventh-seeded Butler 2-0 in a quarterfinal round matchup on Thursday. Volkommer made three stops as the Panthers built up an 11-3 advantage in shots on goal. Kiera Quinlan and Caroline Glass netted first half goals with Christine Patoir credited with the only assist of the contest.
The four sectional champions will meet in the Group I semifinal round on Tuesday, November 11 with the championship game set on the campus of The College of New Jersey on Saturday, November 22. The Panthers are looking to return to the Ewing campus of TCNJ after playing Pennsville, the South Jersey champion, to a scoreless tie that ended with the two teams as co-champions
